Of course you know that the primary sport in the UK is Football aka Soccer. If you say "football" in the UK (or indeed, anywhere outside the US) the assumption will be that you are referring to Soccer. The Football played in the US is usually called "American Football" by the Brits, to differentiate. A similar terminological change happens with Hockey. In the UK, if you say "hockey", you are referring to "field hockey" and not "ice hockey". While in the UK, you will find that local US sports games are not as commonly accessible as they are in the US. The television networks do not give as many options as we are use to in the US. Therefore, you may want to find out where the nearest sports bars are that cater to American sports.
