Flying In 2 London

From the US, you will either arrive in London Gatwick, London Heathrow, or London City Airport, depending on the airline you fly. You can click on the airport names below to take you directly to their main sites.

Gatwick Airport (LGW)

Gatwick is not actually in London so if you are renting a car upon arrival be aware that you will have a drive to London. You can also take the Gatwick Express (a 30 minute ride) to Victoria Station, located in the heart of London.

Heathrow Airport (LHR)

Heathrow is on the west side of London and upon arriving at Heathrow, you can get on the Tube (The London Underground Transit System) to get into central London if you don't have too much baggage. Otherwise you may prefer to rent a car, hire a taxi or even choose a coach.

London City Airport (LCY)

London City Airport typically services flights from Europe with the exception of New York. If you choose a flight from Atlanta with a change in another European city, you may arrive at the London City Airport.

Transportation in London

Driving

In the UK, driving is on the opposite side of the road from the US and most cars are manually operated. If renting a car to drive, ensure you ask for an automatic transmission in advance if that is your preference. Also, a GPS system is called a "SAT-NAV" in the UK. As a first time visitor we strongly suggest using public transportation as driving in London can be stressful for the uninitiated.

Public Transportation

Public transportation and walking are by far the best and quickest ways to get around in London. It is a comparatively safe city to move around in with a lot of help and options available.

All you need to know about London Transportation can be found on the Transport for London website. This includes details about the Congestion Charge in London, the use of Travel Cards, Tube Maps and Taxicabs.
